As a final project for term 1, students lead their learning by designing a work of art themselves! This is a truly authentic experience, relying more in the value in the artistic process than in the finished product. Check out some fine examples below.

Grade 6: Owl Study- Creating Texture using Drawing Media
Students in Ms. Stewart’s Class used a choice of drawing media to complete this assignment. The objective was to create implied texture by experimenting with mark-making using drawing media. I love the variety to the approach and to the personalities of these owl portraits. The following gallery shows some of the finished pieces.

Celebrating Dot Day!
After reading Peter Reynold’s book, The Dot, students worked on an original work of art for our “Dot Day” display. Students were able to use materials from the drawing center, collage center or painting center to design their piece. They were also able to add some materials from the fibers center. Once complete, they were able to select activities from the Dot Day menu board to keep the fun and creativity flowing!

We then wrote our responses to “What is Art?” These responses are greeting you as you enter our school. Please take a moment to check it out.
